Brains and brainchemistry determines a lot of our behavior, thinking, habits.
A lot of science is currently running and I sometimes as my clients to take the Braverman Test.
You simply can download it and fill it out, count your numbers and we can read through the result. –> Download here
I´m a typical dopamine type – FIRE – so in order to keep my up, to hold my productivity and motivation high I need pace, adventure, I love to be curious and explore new things. This test is also very relevant for our bodywork because an exercise designed for a dopamine type will drive the serotonine type maybe crazy. Month ago I´ve found a very good summary about that.
The Trainingsguru Charles Poliquin is also working with these types as the assumption is that this type determines also preferences on training – style & frequency.
Neurotransmitter determine how people think, feel and in this consequence act. It´s much more complicated then saying you are one of these types and do this or that now. But it´s great to know the disposition as with the right nutrition and maybe supplements things can get into balance. If you are interested read the book: „The Edge Effect“.
For me it´s relatively interesting that this test is based on brain chemistry and another test ( dr. Amen ) is based on brain physiology. The clients I´ ve worked out through both with had the same characteristics in both. But why is that relevant for coaching? In the same way you should know you stregth and thinking you should know as much as possible about your brain and how it works – it rules your world and it is changeable ( imagine like a muscle )with the right thinking, movement & nutrition. Amens says: you are not suck with your brain. But knowing comes before changeing. The book recommendation for Amen is: „Das glückliche Gehirn“
